Finally we can happily confirm that the Botanika team will be ‘expanding’ in the new year of 2018. We thought it would be fitting that our next blog is all about nursery design. A fresh and different take on your baby’s new home.

It might be confusing and overwhelming at first, keeping up with todays trends and at the same time sticking between the safe guidelines of decorating – luckily over here at Botanika we try and push as many creative boundaries and sometimes try to steer away from the normal way of doing things. Fortunately this particular blog will not be waving the flag of pastel pink and baby blue palettes. Not that we dislike any of these beautiful colours, but as interior designers and dreamers of the perfect space, we would rather opt for something different and more unusual. The list of creative ideas are endless.

We have taken the time to brainstorm some fun ideas for the new nursery we are working on. Putting together a room that will have a long "shelf life". a Space that can easily morph into a toddlers room when your newborn is not so small, and the crib gets ruled out after a year or two.

Don’t be afraid to set the mood with dark colours. The tonal use of greens and blues does not have to be for boys only, and bold prints and pops of colour can always be added at a later stage when the gender of your baby is confirmed. Keeping it simple is key, as they always say; less is more.

You might be wondering why a rocking chair has not been included.We decided that a three quarter daybed will be a better selected choice for those late nights. This can be dressed up with amazing scatters in velvets and prints, not to mention that this is where you can go wild with pops of colour if you are taking the neutral route. Much more luxurious and comfortable to catch a quick snooze with baby, when your own bedroom is too far.

For scatters, we’ve selected the lovely Jungles to Dunes fabric from Hertex. This fun and vibrant fat cactus fabric print accompanied by bright velvet scatters will turn your daybed into a great fun feature.

As we’ve mentioned the room needs to transform with your baby as he/she grows up. The items here will not need any major changes for a few years, making this design a money saver and economic.

A simple retro and modern chest of drawers has been included as a compactum and at a later stage will turn into a bed side table or display unit. Bringing in simple pieces in light natural wood can be contrasting and stand out against the pale blue backdrop we chose for the walls.

For accessories to add the final touches we’ve added:

Rug from Hertex Bygone – Cobble stone. For a neutral touch with a subtle pattern.
Standing floor lamp and Cot – Pederson + Lennard. One of our favourite go to shops for simple designs.
Hanging ceramic mobile – Railheim (they don’t have any mobiles listed on their website but they do have a few on disply in their Linden store.
Raw pine wood shelves with exposed brackets. These can be custom made or your next home DIY project (for husband of course)
Woven basket for soft toys. These can be sourced and found from practically anywhere. There are many options available online. We do love the ones from Knus Decor.
Square mirrors with copper frames from Superbalist
Chest of Drawers from Eco Furniture design. Amazing natural wood furniture with an option of items that can be custom designed.
Daybed in a natural light wood custom designed.
